Small ensembles of singers and instrumentalists are a major part of the Midsummer experience. Afternoon activities consist of sectional rehearsals, chamber ensembles and elective classes. There are a variety of
electives and chamber music opportunities to meet the varied
needs of Midsummer See the mini-schedule for sample elective offerings and times. Campers who come as part of a pre-existing group are guaranteed the opportunity to be coached together. Those coming independently will be assigned to ensembles, unless expressing a specific desire not to participate in a chamber group . The "Saturday Morning Chamber Music Sampling" in which campers perform for each other is a highlight of the week. Professional recordings of each performance are made and will be available for purchase. Chamber Music Options:

The Standard chamber ensemble experience provides for one hour of coached rehearsal each day. Participants are asked to submit a self-evaluation form describing ability level, experience and musical interests. Groups are matched by these criteria and assigned a faculty coach. Repertoire may be brought from home or suggested by the coach. People registering after June 1 may be asked to select two electives, if no suitable ensemble is available. |

Pre-existing ensembles may attend camp as a group and choose an Intensive chamber music program. The group will enjoy two hours of coached chamber music a day and be assigned a rehearsal room of their own for use at other times. Pre-existing groups must identify themselves at time of registration to assure being assigned together. Independent players will only be assigned the intensive option if a suitable group is available. |
